How do you get a job?

For the last 15 months, I've applied to almost every store in my local area and have not gotten even 1 phone call. I recently applied to a Sushi bar about 4 days ago and am hoping to get a reply back.

Any tips on actually getting the call?
Any tips on preparing for the interview?

Sometimes it's better to create your own job.
Almost a secret 100% commissions loophole.

Do you not like typing a lot that you have to copy and paste on multiple threads?

Do you know if any of these faces jobs are hiring?
I think you should get a local newspaper or online job source to see who's hiring and what fields you want to join ...then call and send a resume (if you have one)...
If you don't have a resume its always best to make one because it looks more professional and also shows that you are job ready.
Also on the call ask a little about the company and of they are hiring on all levels so the person talking to you might share if there are other job openings...you can use this if you fill out an application to put two fields for ex. in a restaurant you can apply for waiter,bartender,dishwasher,greeter...whichever appeals to you ...

If you are walking into a store then I might suggest that you take a service like the sushi place ...just have a seat and order ...also laugh with the waitress be polite and inquire about the company then ask if they are hiring...ask to speak to a manager and when you have shown a reason to hire a nice, funny and social person let them know that you are looking for an opportunity and would be honored to work at their place ... people love to put a familiar face with a paper and remember you can only give a first impression once so sell yourself!

When someone is offering a job depending on the requirements and market situation they might get lots of applications. (For example my company currently offers two jobs, one about technical stuff one about translations. For the technical thingy, just few applications and no one really good - for the translation thingy, we got spammed with applications).
When applying to stores, its probably jobs that dont require special skills, so probably lots of people think they could do that and apply.

If you want to get a call, first thing is to not do any formal mistakes (like spelling sth wrong or flaw on the paper). If someone gets lots of applications, they might sort out such which mistakes first, without even looking closer at them.
Next thing is to convince them youd be an interesting person to employ. For some job at a store it might be a good idea to stress that you are good at calculating and good at dealing with people. Having a CV that shows this is better than just telling.

It might also be a good idea to have contact before sending an application. If some shop is hiring, you could for example go there first and just ask if the job is still available. This gives you a first chance to present yourself in a rather informal atmosphere. A later application from you will be less anonymous then.

That comes later. And I don't think there will be very elaborated interviews for some college part-time job.

I've written some advice here, might be helpful for you too:

I prepared a resume before I started looking for jobs and always updated it. I wish jobs would somehow understand how dedicated someone can be even before applying for the job. I've already gotten a few lectures and even lost my trip to NYC to visit my brother because of his disappointment in me not getting a job for this long. T_T

LOL! I wish I was slick with the ladies. Unfortunately, FreezingHOT seems utterly repulsed every time I give honest compliments & then it's like a war against me! xD

Yes, I always check if the company needs more workers to hire.

In one case, I checked Best Buy and they said they were hiring for a cashier position which I applied to last spring. During the Summer, I stopped by to buy something and there was a whole display right inside about part-time jobs with Best Buy. I did talk to the hiring manager and she said she doesn't need me. Just SMH.

I applied to this Sushi bar because I have a friend who applied and worked there because it was a new restaurant in town that came around a year ago. He told me that the place gets busy during the evenings and especially the afternoons and said that the place needs more workers to handle it. So I went in and asked for an application as a Busboy with a recommendation.

best buy is a hood store but that one might be best to put an online application just to broaden your range...who cares if that one person said no when there could be other people looking and possibly at other locations ..
Just keep checking on your apps and don't give up because jobs are there we just need some patience sometimes...
Also don't worry about girls..we are fickle creatures lol..if someone doesn't show interest in you then maybe it isnt meant to be...
Also nyc is a nice place depends on where you are anyway...I live there so stay focused and maybe you can visit your bro soon..
Ps winter is kinda brutal so you might want to make that suggested vacation for summer or spring lol...
    Good luck
