Camera for good photos.

So, I'm back with another question for you all. I'm going to Dominica in a straight week and I need a good camera. I need a camera that has good zoom and focus, not to heavy and not to big. Right now I have a bad camera which is a Nikon COOLPIX S3100. It doesn't have good zoom and focus. Love how it's light, but it's too slim. One more fact, I need it to make beautiful pictures in Dominica, like if it's too sunny I still want the picture good and when it's too dark I want that it had Night Mode. I heard Canon is best, but I'm not good at picking cameras. Any ideas of what I can buy?

Whats your price range and what do you want? cause i could recommend you a really nice DSLR for like 5000 dollars or a good point and shoot for maybe 300?

Well maybe 400.
Well it depends if my mother likes it.

So point and shoots then, canons are nice, i like them. Their newest point and shoot is the Canon

ELPH 520 HS and its like 300~400 CAD, one down from that is the ELPH 310 HS, i think. around 250~300 CAD
My mom likes sony, shes the one who uses point and shoots in my family, and they have a new model that has good reviews, the DSCTX10B its 400 CAD.
And then theres the samsung EC-MV800ZBPBCA for 300 CAD, it looks spiffy and nice.
also the samsung EC-ST95 is nice for a cheap camera, 150 CAD
With cameras, its always nice to go into the store and try them out for yourself before buying one.

Thread is old but for around your price range I would look into getting a "high zoom" point and shoot camera. The name basically describes it, its a regular point and shoot but with a bigger lens allowing you to zoom in and keeping clarity with the optical zoom. Most point and shoots just have an optical or digital zoom from anywhere around 4-8x. These Superzoom cameras range anywhere from 20-40x magnification with only optical zoom keeping your images crisp. Just google high zoom cameras and see what people recommend or review. I would stick with Canon or Nikon. All your point and shoots are going to be pretty much the same quality with the exception of different features for different price ranges.
